2005 - BECC Annual Report
Published on January 01, 2005
During 2005 BECC staff devoted significant efforts and time to the development of the 59 projects currently in the pipeline. It is estimated that by the beginning of 2006 we will have six projects ready for certification and another six almost finished in their development. Of the projects in the pipeline, almost twenty are in the final design. In the following table we present the 59 projects currently in the pipeline; 14 are in the US and 45 in Mexico, with a total estimated cost of $944.2 million dollars.
For BECC, this was a year of initiatives. 2005 saw the beginning of the implementation of key institutional reforms that have been in the planning stages for the last four years. Among these were the creation of a unified board of direc- tors for both BECC and its sister agency, the North Ameri- can Development Bank (NADB), the expansion of BECC’s geographic scope in Mexico to take into account the economic asymmetries between the U.S. and Mexican parts of the border region, and the development of a greater number of projects in “new sectors” of environmental infrastructure such as air quality, hazardous waste, clean and efficient energy, public transportation, municipal planning and development, and water conservation.
