The Township of Niland is a small census-designated place within an unincorporated area of Imperial County, approximately 45 miles north of the US Mexico border, eight miles north of the City of Calipatria, and two miles south of the Salton Sea. The majority of the Niland population (76 percent) identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino per the 2013 American Community Survey (ACS) conducted by the United States (U.S.) Census Bureau. It was estimated by ACS that 63 percent of the dwelling units in the Niland community were renter-occupied. Households, as a whole, averaged 2.67 persons per household.
