Press Conference held by BECC to Introduce New Deputy General Manager

Posted on February 20, 2011

José Mario Sánchez Soledad has joined the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) as its new Deputy General Manager. His appointment by the Board of Directors of the BECC and the North American Development Bank became effective on February 7, 2011.

The appointment was announced on February 14th at a press conference attended by the local media in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, where the BECC is headquartered.

The newly appointed official brings a background of more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, having focused his work on municipal planning, economic development, and environmental protection in all three levels of government. His involvement in the public sector began during the administration of Ciudad Juarez Mayor Francisco Villareal-Torres (1992-1995), primarily as the Private Secretary to the Mayor.

He later held the position of Northern Area Director for the Chihuahua State Secretariat of Economic Development, and between 2003 and 2007 he was the Delegate in Chihuahua fof Mexico’s Office of the Attorney General for Environmental Protection. Mr. Sánchez Soledad served as City Council member in Ciudad Juarez from 2007 to 2010, and in this capacity he participated in a number of special commissions, including Ecology and Civil Protection, Economic Development, Rural Development, Education and Culture, and Public Services.

"I come to a binational organization that has specialized, interdisciplinary staff working closely with the communities, not only on technical issues, but on binational institutional management. I join the organization seeking to strengthen coordination with my counterpart, General Manager María Elena Giner, and with the North American Development Bank, our sister institution," said the new Deputy General Manager at today's press conference, held at BECC's Rio Bravo Conference Room.

Upon thanking the media representatives for their attendance, José Mario Sánchez Soledad said: "I want to state that you are always welcome to this institution, and that we recognize the continuous support you have provided to the BECC throughout its existence by helping to increase awareness about programs and actions of this organization born in the 20th Century, that has, however, been at the forefront of the 21st Century with a strategic vision, a quality indicators system, and a continuous improvement program. This is how we can provide assurance to the governments of Mexico and the United States that their budget is being managed appropriately and with accountability."

The new official will fully support BECC's commitment to serve as an advocate before state and municipal officials for the development of projects with a long term approach that will help address existing backlogs throughout the border.

Jose Mario Sanchez Soledad committed to work as a team with his General Manager and with the Nadbank.
