The project consists of the replacement of 13 lateral canal sections in the Upper Canal System of the District with underground pipeline. The thirteen sections serve 6,820 acres. The Rio Grande River is the District’s only water source, and the proposed activities will improve management, energy use and conservation of water. The purpose of the project is to eliminate open canal water losses to improve beneficial use of water and make the “saved” water available for irrigation and the growing domestic requirements.
